Carpio is a free app for carp anglers to track the costs, catches and weather of a fishing trip together with their mates. Below you can read what data we store, why, and what your rights are.
What data do we store?
Your account: your name and email address, or the username created for you. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
What you enter in a trip: trip name, water and location, dates, cover photo, costs and how they're split, catches with photos, bait, swim, rig, depth, distance, water temperature, the GPS spot of the catch (only if you add it, visible to participants only), missed bites and notes, and the names of guests you add.
Codes and depth map: codes you store for a trip or home water (e.g. for a lock or barrier) and a depth map with notes. These are only visible to the members of that trip or water.
Account overview: the Carpio administrator sees a list of accounts with name, email or username, creation date, when you last used the app and how many trips and home waters you have. The administrator does not see the content of your trips (catches, costs, codes, photos). When a new account is created, the administrator gets a notification via the ntfy.sh service, without name or email address.
Weather at a catch: air pressure, temperature, wind, cloud cover and moon phase at the time of the catch.
We show no ads, sell no data and use no tracking cookies. If you send feedback via the app, your email arrives at support@carpio.app.
Who sees your data?
Only the members of a trip see that trip's data. There are no public profiles, and your swims and catches aren't visible to outsiders.
Where is it stored?
Google Firebase (Google Cloud) for accounts and your trip data. The database is in a data centre in Belgium (region europe-west1).
Cloudflare hosts the website and anonymously counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. No cookies are used and no IP addresses or personal data are stored; we only see totals, such as visits per day and device type.
Open-Meteo provides the weather. We only send the coordinates of the water, never your name or account.
Esri & OpenStreetMap provide the imagery for the swim map. Your browser loads the map tiles directly from them; your catches and GPS spots are never sent to them.
On your own device the app keeps a copy so it works without signal, plus a few settings, such as kg or lb.
Why?
Only to make the app work: showing your trips, costs and catches and sharing them with your mates. The legal basis is the performance of the service you use.
How long?
As long as your account or the trip exists. If the organiser deletes a trip, it disappears for all members. Daily backups are overwritten over time.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete or take your data with you. In the app you can download your data via "Export & backup". Want your account deleted or have a question? Email support@carpio.app.
If you're not happy with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be).
